The New Electronic Ticket in Cyprus:

What we need to know:

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works in cooperation with the Public Transport Companies in Cyprus introduced Electronic Ticketing.

All paper tickets, and paper cards have been replaced with:

  • One Way Paper Ticket

    Issued in Customer’s Presence from the Driver Console

    Ticket

    AVAILABLE IN ALL BUSES SINCE SEPTEMBER 2018

    1. One Way Paper Ticket: is issued on the bus, in customer’s presence, with the respective amount payable to the driver and with maximum charging price not exeeding the €2.00. Transfers are not allowed.

    One Way Paper Tickets are valid for:

    • All days between: 04:00hrs -21:00hrs

    Between 21:01hrs - 03:49hrs an evening one way paper ticket is issued by the driver with maximum charging price not exceeding the €3.50.

    For Intercity Services the price charged is depending on the route taken. The minimum charge is €3:00.

    Daily Paper Tickets may be issued on the bus with the respective amount payable to the driver and with maximum charging price not exceeding the €6.50.


  • Paper Smart Card – Carries Multiple Single Trips – Non Rechargable

    AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC SINCE JULY 2020

    2. Paper Smart Card – multiple trips: is issued on the bus loaded with a limited number of one-way tickets (4), with the respective amount payable to the driver. For cards loaded with larger number of one-way tickets (8, 10, 20, 40), visit the local Points of Sales.

    Maximum charging price shall not exeed the €2.00 per one-way ticket.

    Maximum charge limits for Daily Title are automatically applied with the use of four one-way tickets.

    For Intercity Services the price charged is depending on the route taken. The minimum charge is €3:00.

    Allows 2 transfers within 60 minutes of the first cancellation without additional charge.

    The Paper Smart Card can be loaded with the following period titles and maximum charging prices:
    - 2day - €13.00
    - 3day - €19.50
    - 7day - €35.00
    - 30day - €70.00

    Single, one-way tickets on the Paper Smart Card are valid all days and hours of service.

    Is sold in all Districts in Cyprus (Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos and Famagusta area under the control of the Cyprus Republic), and is valid only for the service offered in the district that is purchased for.

    The card is valid for 6months from the date of purchase, for first cancellation. Futher 6months are offered from the first cancellation for the use of all tickets. No refund is given for non-use of tickets within the above time periods.


  • Non Personalized Plastic Smart Card - Rechargable

    Ticket

    AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC SINCE MAY 2018

    3. Non Personalized Plastic Smart Card - rechargable: is issued at local points of sale for a fee of €2.00. No discounts are offered with the use of this card.


    Can be charged with:

    • Period Tickets for 7-days or 30-days, valid from the date of the first cancellation, which must be within 6 months of the date of purchase.

      The following maximum charges apply:
      7day - €35.00
      30day - €70.00

      For Intercity Services the price charged is depending on the route taken.

      Period Tickets are valid all days and all hours of service.

      Each card can carry at the same time up to three period tickets from any of the public transport operators in Cyprus covering the districts of Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, Famagusta free area and Intercity travel.

    • E-Wallet - AVAILABLE FROM JUNE 2019 - maximum money held €50. Each cancellation removes a corresponding one-way amount. Allows up to 2 transfers within 60 minutes of the first cancellation without additional charge. Maximum charge limits for Daily, Weekly, and Monthly are not applicable with regular usage in non personalised plastic cards.

    No money or tickets are refunded in case of loss, bad card or non-use. Such service is only available for the Registered Cards.

    To convert the card to "REGISTERED", visit the local Points of Sales. It is necessary that you present a proof of ID (National ID or Passport).

    For "REGISTERED" cards, in the event of loss or malfunction of the card, the money or ticket types are returned to another smart card for an administration and card cost fee of € 5.00.

    You may hold more than one non-Personalized Plastic Smart Card.


  • Personalized Plastic Smart Card – Rechargable

    Ticket

    AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC SINCE MAY 2018

    4. Personalized Plastic Smart Card - rechargable: is issued with a maximum charge of €5.0 at local points of sale and it is also available for people entitled to discounts. It is necessary that you present a proof of ID (National ID or Passport), and where applicable proof of entitlement for discounts (ID for Pupil, University Student, Receiving Government Income Support, Pensioner etc). Your picture is taken and printed on the card.

    Can be charged with:

    • Period Tickets for 7days or 30days and 365days, valid from the date of the first cancellation, which must be within 6 months of the date of purchase.

      The following maximum charges apply:
      7day - €25.00
      30day - €50.00
      365day - €500.00

      For Intercity Services the price charged is depending on the route taken.

      Period Tickets are valid all days and all hours of service.

      Each card can carry at the same time up to three period tickets from any of the public transport operators in Cyprus covering the districts of Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, Famagusta free area and Intercity travel.

    • E-Wallet - AVAILABLE FROM JUNE 2019 - maximum money held €50. Each cancellation removes a corresponding one-way amount. Allows up to 2 transfers within 60 minutes of the first cancellation without additional charge. Maximum charge limits for Daily, Weekly, and Monthly are automatically applied with regular usage at Pancyprian level.

      The following maximum charges apply to the e-wallet for Pancyprian travel:
      - Daily - €20.00
      - 7day - €100.00
      - 30day - €300.00

      In the event of a loss or malfunction of the card, the money or ticket types are reloaded to another smart card at a charge of € 5.00 to cover the administration costs.

      No refund is given for non-use of Tickets.

      You may hold only one Personalized Plastic Smart Card.
